Scripture
He had found Jeremiah bound in chains among all the captives from Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to Babylon. Jeremiah 40:1
Observation
God has his eye on his man and can use even chaos and confusion to guide him to his next assignment. After faithfully speaking for years the truth no one wanted to hear, Jeremiah was a refugee like everyone else. Then God stepped in and pulled him out of the line. The commanding officer took notice of him. He was given provisions and a gift. Jeremiah was offered freedom to do whatever he wanted most.
That gift of freedom showed what was in Jeremiah’s heart. He stayed put with the people in the war zone. He didn’t leave, he stayed. Later on he would travel with the people to Egypt, even though it was the worst choice possible, simply because he knew his assignment.
Application
God can show us much kindness and pull us out of chaotic times. But those moments of deliverance are given to test what is in our hearts. What will we do with freedom? That proves what we love most. I want my freedom to take me deeper into my assignment today.
Prayer
Father, you have given me my assignment at Evergreen Community Church. Help me to make the most of what you have given me freedom here to do. Amen.
