Freedom in Limits

Scripture
John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John 3:27-30

Observation
Most race and chase through life trying to get what they want. For some it is a carrot on a stick. For others, they get it, but then toss it away in boredom.

There is a harder and higher call to go through life and to get exactly what God wants for us. Few want that because they feel limited by God’s will. They want the higher floor, better view, greener grass and bigger turf. Little do they realize that the place God has for us is limitless once we accept the limits of it. The door that is so narrow opens into a kingdom that has no end.

Application
My life objective must be to discover what God has given me from heaven. There are so many things that tempt me that are not from heaven, they are from people or from my own desires. The true delight comes when I seek that which is given from heaven. It is in that confine of God’s purpose that I am truly free.

Prayer
Father, I ask this day to open doors for me by shutting me into your will. Show me exactly what is given to me from heaven to do. Amen.

I'm Phil McCallum, a husband, father and most of all one of the people Jesus loves. I'm privileged to serve Evergreen Community Church in Bothell, Washington as Senior Pastor where people love enough to believe "it's all about relationships." In 1982 I made a vow to read God's word daily and apply it to life. Each day I write out my reflections. Some days I post those on my blog. It's a little personal but it's my hope it will stir you to go deeper still. Learn how I do my devotions. These are my thoughts and not necessarily those of the ministry I serve. By the way check out the computer study Bible Glo. I highly recommend it.
